There’s not much worse than getting in your car, turning that key and seeing that little exclamation point icon telling you that you have low tire pressure. But if you just filled up your tires yesterday and you’re still seeing that warning, it may be time to replace your vehicle’s TPMS sensor.
What Is a TPMS Sensor?
TPMS (or Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors are little devices that are found on your car’s wheel. These sensors keep track of your vehicle’s tire pressure and send that information to your car’s computer. If tire pressure gets too low in the tire, the TPMS lets the car know, resulting in some form of warning from your car that tire pressure is lower than it should be.
What does the TPMS Sensor Light Look Like?
The TPMS sensor light, like most of your other notifications will show up in your vehicle’s dashboard. It will look like this:
In some vehicles, the TPMS sensor may also appear on your vehicle’s computer screen with additional information that can be helpful in determining what your TPMS sensor is telling you.
How Long Do TPMS Sensors Last?
TPMS sensors are battery-operated, but those batteries are designed to last several years, generally anywhere from 5 to 10 years.
